《皇牌空戰：突擊地平線》將會是一個不同於以往系列的作品，該作將會是系列的一次重生。

遊戲以2015年的非洲為背景，故事敘述以「奪回非洲」為口號的反政府運動從東非蔓延至整
個非洲大陸，當地政府向聯合國請求援軍以對抗沿海的反政府軍與海盜。北大西洋公約組織
（NATO）會員國於是決定派遣聯軍，在非洲各地展開作戰。不過，反政府軍藉由現代化的軍力
與因地利而生的游擊戰術，取得勢均力敵的局面，使戰局陷入膠著。
